Job Interviews

Job Interviews

Seeking employment is never an easy feat, as there will always be another person yearning for the same job title as yours. Whilst that is a challenge in itself, there is another thing that you should be concerned about – job interviews. If you are an introvert, this can be a terrifying experience for you.

In London, recruitment agencies are popular, as they not only provide businesses with the needed qualified members of the workforce, but they also take in those with potential. Like all companies, they conduct interviews to make sure that they are hiring the right people.
As an introvert, how can you stand out from the rest?

Bias toward Extroverts

There is an unconscious bias towards individuals with extroverted personalities, and this is one of the factors that impede a company’s effort to hire diverse candidates. People with outgoing personalities and firm handshakes dwarf those with passive personalities in the job market.

Acing a Job Interview as an Introvert

Stressing out about your job interview is normal, but if you start overthinking, you lose your cool, and it will show during the interview. Here are a few things you can do to alleviate stress over your job interview.

Highlight your strengths – Tell them that you can work independently, creative and you have excellent written skills. Discuss these and connect it to specific examples that can prove your point.

Make eye contact – there is no way around it, but do not overdo it. Look your interviewer in the eye as a way to express how interested you are in the job.

Make sure you prepare for the day itself – Know your talking points and rehearse in front of the mirror or with a friend if necessary so that when the big day arrives, you would not be as nervous.

Successful, Introverted Entrepreneurs

Do not be disheartened – just because you are an introvert, does not mean that you will have to struggle to survive in the industry of your choosing. Believe it or not, some entrepreneurs thrive while being introverts themselves. These include the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, Facebook’s very own Mark Zuckerberg, as well as the CEO and product architect of Tesla Inc., Elon Musk.
