Accounts Assistant - Banking

A leading bank in the city are looking to hire an Accounts Assistant to join their team. They offer an exciting position with the opportunity to learn and develop if studying towards an accountancy qualification therefore this role will suit an ambitious individual with the passion to qualify as an accountant.

The role is to assist the CFO in the completion of financial reporting, taxation and regulatory returns and the annual budget.

This position will offer chances to get involved in preparation of trial balances, mentoring from an experienced Finance Manager and exposure to preparing the year-end financial statements. The Finance Manager has specified that candidates come with strong academics at degree level, hold some Accounts Assistant work experience and be a quick learner.

Key Responsibilities -

  • Assist the CFO in the preparation of the management pack
  • Preparation of various regulatory returns
  • Assist in the preparation of the corporation tax returns
  • Daily Nostro reconciliations
  • Preparation of tax expenses for head office
  • Accruals and prepayments processing
  • Fixed asset register maintenance
  • Accounts opening maintenance
  • Petty cash payments and reconciliations
  • Preparation of daily P&L
  • Preparation of treasury report
  • Foreign Exchange transaction monitoring
  • Perform balance sheet and bank reconciliations
  • Assist with the collection of outstanding receivables
  • Assist in the submission of monthly employee expenses and make reimbursements
  • Ensure timely filing of documents
  • Check all financial transactions for accuracy and monitor

Other Duties -

  • To acquire and maintain a good working knowledge of the Bank's procedure manual's
  • To adhere to all relevant regulatory requirements and restrictions
  • To complete actions set by compliance within specified deadlines
  • Aiding financial analysis to feed into decision support projects
  • Ad hoc project work

Skills required -

  • Educated to degree level achieving 2:1 or above
  • Strong A level and GCSE's
  • 1 - 3 years' work experience as an Accounts Assistant
  • Background in Financial Services essential
  • Background in Banking highly advantageous
  • Sociable personality - outgoing, confident communicator
  • Self-motivated and ambitious - driven by a career in Accounting
  • Flexibility in approach to managing own work load
