SME FMCG/Retail organisation

6 months contract - Assistant Accountant/Bookkeeper

My client is a rapidly growing SME based in the West End London.

You will be reporting into the Head of Management Reporting and will be responsible for:

  • Bank reconciliations:
    • Reconciliation of bank accounts on a monthly basis by working day 5
    • Translation of foreign currency bank accounts at month end exchange rate
    • Understand and work to clear reconciling items
  • Cash management:
    • Process regular non-invoice payments e.g VAT, PAYE and Salary payments
    • Set up ad-hoc payments on managements request
    • Transfer cash between accounts
    • Managing petty cash, ensuring there is supporting documentation for all expenses
    • Depositing cheques in bank
  • Accounts Payable:
    • Understand AP process and provide support to AP clerk during busier periods/when AP clerk is on leave to ensure invoices continue to be processed for payment
  • Accounts Receivable:
    • Invoicing management fee income between group companies on a quarterly basis
    • Invoicing rental and other income for the Hotels portfolio
    • Recharging insurance fees paid for Hotels portfolio to tenant
    • Billing head office rental space to sub-tenants on a quarterly basis
  • Management Accounts:
    • Preparation of basic management accounts for the Group Management Companies on a quarterly basis
    • Preparation of management accounts for a small joint venture property company on a quarterly basis
  • Balance sheet reconciliations:
    • Preparing balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring documentation is on file to support the specified account balances on a bi-annual basis.

Background of the candidate:

  • 1-2+ years experience in Accounts Assistant role, including experience preparing bank reconciliations
  • Basic accounting principles and bookkeeping
  • Basic VAT knowledge
  • Proficient in Excel and Word
  • Familiarity with the use of an accounting system
