Job description

My client, a UK leading publishing firm based in the City of London is looking for a newly qualified ACA to join their head office team.

Reporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Accountant will be responsible for:

  • Manage the year end audit process and production of financial statements for a plc. Also own the interim financial reporting.

  • Be the single point of contact for the audit and ensure information is prepared in advance of audit to the required standard, as well as resolving any queries that arise in a timely manner.

  • Be involved in due diligence and integration planning for any acquired companies.

  • Month end close for all subscriptions revenue, candidate should be familiar with revenue recognition and have experience of subscriptions management within financial accounting software

  • Preparation of the consolidated monthly reporting pack for the Board of Directors, Management Accounts and all related Management reporting including analysing variances to plan and forecast. Shared ownership of the reporting packs so must be able to work well with other people under pressure. Preparation of separate P&L's for individual stakeholders. Sales performance summaries to provide to Sales Directors.

  • Updating monthly reforecasting models and reporting thereon. Participation in the annual budget process including consolidation and preparation of presentations.

  • Day to day overview and review of revenue for a number of products and operating areas. Managing deferred and accrued revenue (manual process). Analysis and reporting of revenue as part of monthly reporting cycle including release of flash revenue report on day 2 of month end.

  • Day to day overview and review of centrally managed costs. Analysis and reporting of costs and gross profit margins as part of monthly reporting cycle.

  • Ownership and management of specific control accounts. Balance Sheet reconciliations to be completed monthly. Legacy Balance Sheet reconciliations to be rectified and maintained.

  • Gain a thorough understanding of the numbers in order to become a business partner and help the business achieve its objectives. Regular interaction with all stakeholders within the Group. Good communication skills and positive attitude

  • As well as planning, forecasting and reforecasting there will be a need to develop reports tailored to the needs of the Board as well as the business. Strong Excel skills essential.

  • Have good experience in implementing, improving and adapting internal controls of the organisation and control of branches/regions. Will involve some visits to the regions (circa 4 per annum) namely Brussels, Edinburgh and Paris.

  • Good understanding of how systems/software packages work and are integrated in an organisation.
