Job description

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Media Officer to assist the development of the company's profile within this specialist clinical professionals by utilising traditional and online media, and other PR activities. To highlight the work of the members to a range of audiences including the general public, decision makers and other health professionals. To liaise with the Press and PR teams to develop strategy

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Increased profile of the company and its members in broadcast news. and develop broadcast opportunities
  • Be responsive and draft/circulate press releases, statements and briefings for journalists
  • Work with the senior digital media officer to identify service examples for broadcast media and related online content.
  • Liaise with the regional communications officers to develop opportunities in the local media and campaign events in their areas.
  • Raise the profile through study-led stories and build relationships with the research community/ PR teams
  • Deputise for the Head of Press and PR when required.
  • Advise the CEO, Council members, directors and senior managers on the presentation in the national media and appropriate responses to national media enquiries.
  • Offer coaching and training for directors, senior managers and members in preparation for national media interviews (print and broadcast).
  • To contribute to related PR activities, the evaluation of campaigns and media initiatives, and to the production of regular performance monitoring reports.

Person Specification

  • Previous expereince of working and promoting member an advantage
  • Previous experience of working in a media or public relations role, including developing news stories for national, local and online media, writing media releases and posting information in social media
  • Experience of creating and planning national media campaigns
  • Proven experience of reputation management, and response to breaking news
  • Intermediate skill levels in Word, Excel and Outlook, as well as using a media database.
  • High level understanding of the current affairs/political agenda and the ability to respond to it speedily, imaginatively and with accuracy.
  • Knowledge of the healthcare sector or similar and/or experience of trade unions or campaigning organisations, would be an advantage
  • Excellent and wide-ranging verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate confidently and clearly, both verbally and in writing, whether for press releases, web copy, briefings or reports.
  • Resilient under pressure and able to work to deadlines and within budgets.
  • Degree Educated preferably with a relevant qualification or equivalent experience
