Job description

Our client, an International Bank based in the City of London are looking to recruit 3 permanent Surveillance Analysts. The Surveillance Analysts will work as part of the Surveillance team. This team is a second line control function, responsible for reviewing alerts generated from transaction monitoring systems to identify suspicious activity, sanctions breaches and adverse media which may impact the reputational risk of the bank.

Main Responsibilities will include;

  • Performing assessments of alerted customer activity generated from transaction monitoring systems
  • Ensuring timely identification and escalation of unusual activity
  • Analysing customer activity to make independent judgements of whether the activity is unusual and requires escalation
  • Drafting reports and documenting analysis in a logical manner that sufficiently supports decisions
  • Working with front line staff to obtain any information that would be helpful during the alert assessment and analysis
  • Applying critical thinking skills to recognise patterns, trends and inconsistencies within transactional and customer data to detect, prevent, mitigate and report potentially suspicious activity
  • Understanding complex issues and customer risks associated with money laundering, terrorist financing, financial crimes or other legal and reputational risks
  • Perform other additional tasks as required from time to time as directed by the Surveillance Manager MLRO (UK).

To be considered for this position ideal candidates must have the following experience and skills;

  • Transactions Monitoring, Financial Crime, Anti-Money Laundering and Sanctions Experience
  • Knowledge of relevant guidelines such as FCA Handbook, JMSLG and 4MLD
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experienced knowledge of MS Excel, including pivot tables, macros, filtering, and sorting
  • Working knowledge of effective internet search techniques
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills

  • Able to operate under their own initiative
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, judgment, and research skills
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask
