Capital Accountants ensure accurate tracking of asset lives, depreciation, and budget compliance to support capital investment decisions.

Typical responsibilities for Capital Accountants include:

  • Maintaining and reconciling the fixed asset register, ensuring completeness and accuracy

  • Accounting for capital expenditures, disposals, transfers, and impairments

  • Calculating and posting depreciation, amortisation, and revaluation adjustments

  • Preparing monthly and year‑end close entries related to fixed assets and capital projects

  • Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for capital spend

  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards such as IFRS, UK GAAP, and relevant tax regulations

  • Collaborating with project managers and finance teams to monitor project costs and capitalisation criteria

  • Assisting with audit queries and producing schedules for external and internal auditors

  • Implementing and improving internal controls around asset acquisition, disposal, and depreciation

  • Using ERP and asset management software such as SAP, Oracle Fixed Assets, Sage, and Excel
