An exciting opportunity has become available working as an Deputy and Commissioning Editor for a fantastic Organization.

This is a permanent position, Based in the City of London.

As an Deputy and Commissioning Editor you will be required to fulfil deputy duties Via supporting other members of the team and filling in for the Editor when required, which involves support on the production aspects of the magazine.

Key Responsibilities for Deputy and Commissioning Editor:

  • Generating ideas for features and following up on leads
  • Scheduling features well in advance to ensure a balance of content that caters to the needs of the diverse membership
  • Write up briefs
  • Liaising with contributors and chasing copy
  • Maintaining the features spreadsheet to keep teams informed
  • Editing articles to fit the style of inhouse
  • Interviewing and writing features when required
  • Sourcing high-quality images and liaising with the design department to generate visually appealing features
  • Meeting deadlines for all projects
  • Take responsibility for allocated pages through to the print production process.
  • Proofread copy and check layouts for all magazine content alongside the rest of the team, in print and online
  • Work closely with the Magazine Group Editor to plan balanced coverage of content across the magazine
  • Attend events and make new connections via networking for the industry.
  • Liaising with other teams within the company to help with leads.
  • Assisting with future projects undertaken by the editorial team

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience dealing with stakeholders
  • Editorial skills and the ability to sense a good story
  • Experience dealing with articles
  • Ability to cultivate contacts and establish links with contributors and organisations
  • Experience of writing and editing features
  • Confidence with scientific/technical material and explaining complex concepts
  • Strong proofreading and sub-editing skills
  • Experience of InDesign for sub-editing
  • Ability to work with accuracy under pressure to multiple tight deadlines
  • Experience dealing with team members.

This is a permanent position paying £30,000 - £35,000 + Hybrid working based The City of London.
