Job description

My client is a growing SME in the energy sector, focused on energy services, committed to delivering sustainable and innovative energy solutions. We are seeking an experienced Finance Manager on a 9-month fixed-term contract to manage financial operations and provide strategic insights during a critical growth and project phase.

Role Overview:

The Finance Manager will oversee all financial operations, from day-to-day accounting and cash flow management to budgeting, forecasting, and supporting strategic decision-making. This temporary role is ideal for a hands-on finance professional comfortable operating in a dynamic SME environment and able to deliver results quickly.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee accounting operations including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements and management reports.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including tax filings, audits, and financial regulations.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal financial controls and policies.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Prepare and update budgets and rolling forecasts during the contract period.
  • Monitor financial performance against targets, providing variance analysis and actionable recommendations.
  • Support business leaders with financial insights for operational decision-making.

Cash Flow & Working Capital

  • Manage daily cash flow, banking relationships, and liquidity needs.
  • Optimize working capital to support business operations and short-term projects.

Strategic Finance

  • Provide financial input on business planning, project evaluation, and investment analysis.
  • Support profitability improvement initiatives and cost optimization efforts.
  • Assist with fundraising, grant applications, or investor reporting if required.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Review and improve financial processes to enhance efficiency and reporting accuracy.
  • Support implementation or optimization of accounting/ERP systems where needed.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • Professional qualification (ACCA, CPA, CIMA, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years' finance experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
  • Experience in the energy, utilities, or infrastructure sector advantageous.
  • Previous SME experience, able to balance strategic and operational finance.
