Our client, a City based International Bank, are looking to recruit a Credit Analyst to join their expanding Corporate Credit Department. Main purpose of this position, will be to assist the Private Banking and Corporate Investment Banking business teams with the on-going provision of credit requests on the bank's existing client base as well as any new clients. Specifically by prompt and complete preparation of credit submissions (incl. recommendation) as per applicable policies & procedures. You'll also provide support towards first and second line of defence partners.

Main responsibilities will include;

  • Assess and structure credit lines in consultation with RMs that meets our client's credit criteria as well as obligor's business
  • Undertake credit appraisal including financial analysis for ensuring that a complete Credit Approval Package ("CA Pack") is offered as per our client's UK's credit policies and related procedures. This includes the preparation of CA package for new credit facility requests, annual reviews and interim & ad-hoc credit requests. Ensure completion and up to date review and analysis of the obligors alongside recommendation of a credit proposal (incl. on internal ratings and proposed remedial actions)
  • Spreading of financial statements; analyze and generate appropriate ratings within two weeks of receipt of financials
  • Timely and complete Credit Pack submissions, including review of supporting documents
  • Contact Relationship Managers and/or overseas Credit to request the relevant updated information
  • Monitor obligor transactions, repayments draw downs, collateral status and obligor's financial performance. Follow up with RM/Customer for obtaining the half-yearly and annual financials within 2 to 4 months of half-year/annual closing.
  • Monitor approval conditions & financial covenants; and report the compliance & findings.
  • Archive internal ratings of all relationships within your allocated portfolio of clients.
  • Monitor end-use-of-funds as well as utilization of facilities on a regular basis particularly on development financing obligors (on a quarterly basis).
  • Monitor (often daily) reports of Past Due / Excesses / etc. from the system. Follow up and timely resolve irregularities with the help of RMs.
  • Weekly monitoring of share price movement of listed companies and report any negative findings.
  • Attend Client DD/calls at the time of reviews/ new proposals (min of 1 per annum). Submit call reports. Monitor early warning signals and highlight such obligors to be moved to Early-Alert or Watch-list as deemed fit.
  • Manage problem credits closely and recommend appropriate strategies and remedial action plans.
  • Identify defaulters & recommend immediate remedial solutions to maintain a quality credit portfolio.
  • Ensure asset classification and provisioning is in line with statutory and policy guidelines.
  • Overall portfolio monitoring and reporting for accounts pertaining and thus acting as a second line of defence along with GRM.
  • Maintain an awareness of market and business conditions in so far as this impacts our clients UK's obligors and as such its credit portfolio. Gather market / industry / customer updates from public domain.
  • Ensure that policy limits are not exceeded and ensure that requisite approvals are obtained when such limits are exceeded.
  • Provide information to Risk/Finance for forecasting of NPLs and Interest in Suspense as required
  • Contribute towards the preparation and/or maintenance of (local and/or HO) internal reporting (such as event of default, excesses, restructured/rescheduled, London Branch Risk Committee reporting) and/or monitoring reports as required.

To be considered for this position, ideal candidates must have the following experience and skills;

  • At least 3 years of relevant credit experience - including good experience of the relevant UK and international market with respect to UK Real Estate (incl. commercial real estate such as hotel and development loans), large corporates and trade finance and to a lesser extent Financial Institutions
  • Bachelor's degree level in accountancy/ commerce/ economics preferred
  • Desirable: Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or relevant discipline
  • Strong corporate (and ideally Financial Institution) credit, analytical, communication, interpersonal and presentational skills
  • An open minded, collaborative and ethical approach, willingness to learn on the job new credit skills
  • Ability to work independently and follow directions, self-driven and a good team player
