Job description

An experienced Assistant Governance Officer is required to work from home for this membership body. You will be responsible for providing governance support, delivering high quality, accurate and timely work. Reporting to the Head of Governance and working with closely with other Governance team members

  • Provide support to Council and committee meetings by managing arrangements including taking minutes and drafting governance related papers
  • Assist with inductions and provide support for new council and committee members
  • Council and committee evaluation/development - to provide support as required in the arrangements for member development and Council Evaluation.
  • Maintain and extend governance policies and the sound framework for governance procedures and practices, including development of new committee terms of reference and other policy review work - including register of members' interests, loss of earnings and members' expenses
  • Assist the Data protection Officer to ensure appropriate processes and on-going support are in place to enable the company to comply with its obligations under the Data Protection Act.
  • Assist with key events for members e.g. annual conference and annual general meetings
  • Working as a Governance team member to ensure systems are updated and to cover absences in the team

Person Specification

  • Degree educated or equivalent, or equivalent knowledge through experience
  • Preferably be a student or graduate member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators
  • Experience of organising, sup[porting and administering meetings and workshops, including note/minute taking
  • Good organisational and planning skills to effectively prioritise conflicting demands and resources and manage time effectively
  • Strong written communication skills - able to research and draft clear and accurate communications, policies, guidance, briefings, papers and presentations - with the ability to adapt style and tone to the audience and strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong verbal communication skills - able to communicate effectively with senior management and take a customer service approach - demonstrating sound judgement, tact, diplomacy, discretion, respect for confidential/sensitive information, maintaining confidences and generating trust
  • Able to work on own initiative with supervision
  • Experience of working as part of a team with colleagues based both remotely and in the office
  • Sound IT skills, including advanced use of CRM/Dynamics, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, Excel and tools to manage and monitor work as well as use of virtual technology such as zoom
  • Preferably have worked for an association or a membership body with an understanding of the concepts and workings of corporate governance affecting professional bodies and trade unions
  • An understanding of Data Protection legislation and practice

Duration: ongoing (possibly 6 months plus)

Day Rate: £149.00 - PAYE (plus accrued holiday pay)
