Job description

City based Asset Management consultancy, have an exciting opportunity for an experienced legal compliance officer to become the Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP) and money laundering officer (MLRO) on maternity cover for a 13 - 14 month fixed term contract. The successful candidate will have four direct reports and will work alongside the Group's COO, General Counsel and the Group's existing compliance staff to ensure to the law firm's policies, procedures and applicable regulatory standards and best practices.

Responsibilities of the Compliance Officer & MLRO will include;

  • Practising Certificate renewals
  • Maintaining and updating CPD questionnaire
  • Filing reviews for both AML and Legal Work
  • Reviewing policies (yearly unless otherwise determined)
  • Adding/removing new Solicitors to mySRA portal.
  • Administering core training for solicitors and legal staff
  • Keeping up to date with regulatory developments and attending COLP/MLRO training courses
  • Maintaining the "compliance register" excel workbook, breaches, complaints, conflicts, shared files, undertakings, declined cases
  • Liaison for SRA questions, conflicts and confidentiality etc.
  • Reviewing alongside Managing Partners the Company's engagement letters
  • Reviewing the Company's Risk Register periodically
  • Ensuring PII renewal completed
  • Ensuring the Company and individuals have the correct authorisations
  • Submitting diversity data to the SRA
  • Reviewing the COLP advisory services Acting as MLRO
  • Ensuring the client/AML onboarding process runs smoothly
  • Checking and signing off on new projects
  • Reviewing AML checks for each client
  • Implementing new processes and procedures
  • Filing Suspicious activity reports (SARs) as and when required
  • Maintaining and updating content on our internal systems
  • PEP register maintenance and ongoing monitoring

To be considered for this exciting opportunity, ideal candidates must have the following experience and skills;

At least 5 years' experience in a senior risk and compliance role within a UK law firm or other professional services organisation

  • Qualified Solicitor or barrister of England or Wales, a Registered European Lawyer or be otherwise appropriately registered with the Bar Standards Board
  • Experience managing a team
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable anti-money laundering laws and processes, and the SRA Code of Conduct
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, in particular able to formulate and articulate clear and practical guidance to members of staff and, if requested, external clients, both orally and in writing
  • Excellent analytical skills, strong attention to detail and independent risk-based judgement
  • Self-motivated
  • Able to manage competing priorities
  • Ability to work within a busy and fast paced environment
