Job Title: Financial Accountant

Reporting To (name and job title): Senior Reporting Manager

Department: Reporting - Data Services Division

Location: London

Status: Permanent

DESCRIPTION/ JOB PURPOSE

The purpose of the role is to provide financial accounting support to the UK Reporting team Data Services Division. This role will suit a newly qualified accountant.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the Revenue financial close process for some of the Data Business Units. This includes accruals, performing variance analysis and investigating and explaining significant variance, account reconciliations, ensuring all activities are completed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ensuring adequate reconciliations from the general ledger to the Billing system and to source data are completed and documented
  • Complete and submit Royalty reports
  • Prepare schedules and submit to Corporate as part of Group and SEC reporting
  • Assist with the Cost financial close process and other areas for the Data Business Units as required
  • Assist Director of Statutory Reporting with preparation of statutory financial statements in accordance with UK GAAP
  • Assist with internal and external Audits
  • Assist Manager with preparation and review of the Data Business Units Financial statements
  • Assist with one-off business transactions and projects as required
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to analyze data and explain to stakeholders
  • Point of contact for all stakeholders for Accounting areas responsible
  • Provide backup and cover for Manager as required
  • The performance of such other duties as may be required from time to time by the Manager

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Newly qualified Accountant (preferably ACA) is essential
  • Previous experience with Revenue Accounting is essential
  • Experience from a Chartered Accountant or ideally an Financial Services firm
  • Strong knowledge of theory, generally accepted accounting principles and practices, applications, and terminology of accounting, including financial statement preparation and knowledge of UK GAAP and possibly IFRS and US GAAP
  • Computer literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Office package is essential and previous use of accounting application systems such as PeopleSoft is desirable
  • Highly developed personal communication skills, both written and oral
  • Good attention to detail, self-motivated and self-starter
  • Ability to work towards tight deadlines
  • Clear commitment to the team approach exchanging ideas and providing support to colleagues
