Job description

Prestigious International Bank based in the West End of London, are looking to recruit a Market Risk Analyst to join their expanding Risk Department. Main function of the position will be Risk Analysis & Risk Reporting. This function forms part of the Risk Unit 2nd line of defence.

Main responsibilities of the Market Risk Analyst will include;

  • Apply industry experience, best practice and technical expertise to develop and support the Bank's Market Risk function;
  • Provide analysis on Market Risk measures such as P&L, MTM, Regulatory VaR, Stressed VaR, Incremental Risk Charge and Risks Not in VaR and internal measures such as Economic Capital;
  • Develop models for Market Risk analysis and internal Stress Testing;
  • Draft presentations and technical documents designed to articulate key risks to non-risk forums such as the Board, Auditors and Regulators;
  • Interact regularly with the front office to ensure that the Market Risks arising from day-to-day investment/trading positions are fully understood and managed appropriately within the Risk Management Framework;
  • Liaise with back office and support colleagues to ensure that systems adequately represent the risk profile of the Trading/Banking books, and that risk numbers are reported in an accurate and timely manner;
  • Continually develop, automate and embed more up-to-date, accurate, and relevant MI for forums, committees and senior management up to and including the Board Risk and Compliance Committee;
  • Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders and data providers (e.g. Treasury, IT, CRO, Finance);
  • Ensure processes are documented and reviewed regularly and have the necessary controls embedded within them in particular with reference to the Bank's Risk and Control Self-Assessment process;
  • Provide second-line assurance of front office activity, ensuring that it is in-line with internal policy, Risk Appetite, Risk Framework and Investment and Trading Mandates.
  • Actively support COREP, ILAAP, ICAAP, RRP and Pillar 3 reporting;
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of information packs to various management committees and CRO report to the Board Risk & Compliance Committee, including analysis and commentary, ensuring risk issues are well understood and presented openly;
  • Keep abreast of market news and trends in order to produce insightful market risk analysis and management information; and
  • Deliver other ad hoc projects/work-streams as directed by the CRO.

To be considered for the Market Risk Analyst position, ideal candidates should have the following experience, skills and background;

  • 1+ years' experience gained within a financial institution or financial services firm within risk management and/or market risk analysis;
  • Quantitative educational background. A bachelor's degree in a quantitative subject e.g. Finance/Mathematics/Physics/Economics is desirable;
  • Knowledge of interest rate products, counterparty risks and/or market risks, trade characteristics and hedging strategies. Specifically, can demonstrate understanding of key risk factors for FX, Rates, IR products and how they are measured;
  • Good understanding of risk management metrics such as VaR, PVBP, RWA and Stress Testing;
  • Experience of delivering accurate, timely and insightful management information to support executive decision making;
  • Experience in documenting requirements, validating functional specifications and drafting testing plans;
  • Experience in interpreting policies and documenting procedures;
  • Ability to sustain a high level of performance under pressure with short deadlines and competing priorities;
  • Highly numerate and analytical with ability to interpret statistical information;
  • Proven ability to contribute to projects and teams across different business areas;
  • Organised, results focused, detailed orientated and experience of working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment;
  • Working knowledge of fixed income and mortgage products is desirable;
  • Working knowledge Basel III/CRD IV;
  • Knowledge and awareness of ICAAP, ILAAP and RRP;
  • Knowledge and awareness of IFRS9;
  • High level of expertise in VBA and Excel;
  • Excellent written, interpersonal and verbal communication skills; and
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg platform reporting.
