Job description

International Bank based in the West End of London, are looking to hire a brand new Relationship Director to focus on Institutional Banking and become an integral part of their expanding Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) team in London. The CIB team is active across 2 distinct client pools Corporate clients (comprised of blue chip names with a non-industry specific approach) and Institutional clients (financial institutions and non-banking financial institutions).

The institutional client profile again will be in line with the strategy of our client and risk appetite for our client as outlined from time to time which will include a geographic focus on UK, Europe and the Middle East. The institutional client profile typically falls within one of four categories; Asset managers, Insurance companies, Sovereign wealth funds and government related entities & Financial institutions.

The institutional client marketing strategy will be as follows;

  • Attracting liquidity in currency and tenor as advised from time to time by London Treasury ALM (complemented from time to time by Head office Treasury ALM)
  • Deploying excess liquidity at branch level through; Interbank lending (predominantly through FI trade transactions and where appropriate money market), FI Trade transactions, Real estate lending (with support from HoWB and dedicated credit manager)
  • Providing and supporting ancillary services for the wider Group including; Sourcing trade flows from UK and European banks into the geographic network of our client and Risk distribution of Group assets (typically trade loans)
  • Execution only investment services for GCC fixed income and equity (being developed but through dedicated infrastructure within Treasury)
  • Sourcing transactions from financial institutions that comply with the risk appetite for corporate clients with a particular focus on ESG

Main responsibilities of the Relationship Director will include;

  • Raising liquidity (at present through deposits and Certificate of Deposits, "CDs") from Institutional client base, directly and Corporate client base - with support of the corporate relationship management team
  • Develop relationships with the institutional client base with a view to promote the product range including (but not limited to); Participations in syndicated facilities (real estate finance, project finance), Bilateral lending facilities (including real estate lending for relevant equity sponsors) and Trade Finance
  • With the support of a dedicated front line risk assessment team, identify, monitor and control all credit risks involved, including, but not limited to; Operational risks, Overall operating environment, Compliance risks
  • Prepare and propose annual budget and provide monthly updates to Head of Wholesale Banking

To be considered for this position, ideal candidates must have the following experience and skills;

  • Academic background in a relevant field complemented with relevant qualification
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in: Institutional Banking; and/or Treasury Sales, FI Trade, Real estate finance/Project Finance (optional)
  • The job holder will have had previous exposure in dealing with senior management and be familiar with requirements in terms of reporting and communication.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal skills
  • An able team player
  • Ability to work on own initiative and ability to prioritise work
  • Accurate organized individual, flexible and happy to undertake any task in support of the team members and thus the client
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Should have a positive "can do" attitude combined with a flexible approach to the tasks required
