Job description

Prestigious International Bank, based in the West End of London, are looking to recruit a Trade Finance Sales Manager to join their expanding Corporate & Institutional Banking (C&IB) team which sits within their Wholesale Banking Department. This is a brand new headcount/position, so an amazing opportunity for someone to really make the position their own and make a difference/impact in the bank!

As Trade Finance Sales Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for:

  • P&L adherence as outlined from time to time through the annual budget process
  • Client acquisition and retention (in conjunction with relevant stakeholders both in London as well as our client's Group entities)
  • Product management and development (where required in conjunction with Head of Wholesale Banking and dedicated Trade Finance staff both in London and head office)

The focus is to originate trade finance transactions from tier 1 clients (and on a selective basis tier 2) from a UK and European background who are exporting into the MENA region. The role is to attract and finance relevant trade flows through Trade Sales and on a selective basis inventory and receivables finance. The incumbent will have back-up from a designated member within Wholesale Banking.

Core responsibilities of the Trade Finance Sales Manager will include;

  • Identify, attract and maintain relationships with relevant client profiles (to be assessed from time to time by Head of Wholesale Banking), including (but not limited to) - Commodity traders, Manufacturers & Contractors
  • Maintain and improve the trade finance infrastructure, including (but not limited to) accounting set up, IT infrastructure and compliance procedures and techniques (in conjunction with relevant departments both in London as well as Group Head Office)
  • Assess and evaluate staffing in function of workload
  • Ensure adherence to relevant regulatory framework (both internal and external)
  • Liaise with internal departments including corporate banking to assess utilization and seek improvement where applicable
  • Structure and negotiate terms and conditions with prospective clients
  • Check legal documentation in consultation with internal legal department and where required with external legal advisers
  • Identify, monitor and control all credit risks involved, including, but not limited to - Operational risks, Overall operating environment & Compliance risks
  • Act as back-up to Trade Finance Officer to handle client requests
  • Continuously liaise with the client base to obtain ancillary business and liquidity from allocated projects and oversee wallet sizing in conjunction with Corporate Banking department
  • Assist in other areas of the Bank as and when required by the Head of Wholesale Banking
  • Prepare and propose annual budget and provide monthly updates to Head of Wholesale Banking

To be considered for this position, ideal candidates must have the following experience and skills;

  • Academic background in a relevant field coupled with relevant qualification such as CITF
  • 10 years' experience minimum in either Banking trade finance environment, Commodity trading house, Trade finance department of multinational
  • The job holder will have had previous exposure in dealing with senior management and be familiar with requirements in terms of reporting and communication
  • The Job holder will also have had significant exposure to standard trade finance products and will have had experience with wider trade finance elements such as structured trade finance ("STF")
  • The Job holder will be able on an autonomous basis to assess the impact of the division on the wider department and satisfy the requirements of senior management to deliver added value in a consistent manner
  • The Job holder will be fully aware of the capabilities and appetite of the bank and branch and work towards maximizing output accordingly
  • Excellent track record in trade finance and wider commercial role
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English (additional languages are a definite plus)
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal skills
  • An able team player
  • Ability to work on own initiative and ability to prioritise work
  • Accurate organized individual, flexible and happy to undertake any task in support of the team members and thus the client
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
