Job description

Our client, an International Payments Business are looking to recruit a Transactions Operations Manager to join their expanding Operations department. You will lead the Transactions Ops team, liaising closely with banking partners, internal stakeholders, including Front and Middle Office, overseeing all settlements, payments and investigations for our EMEA clients and supporting other Operations teams globally. You'll also look to continually improve processes, work on projects and relay reports to senior management.


This role is suited to enthusiastic individuals with excellent communication skills and extensive management experience. You'll be a real stickler for detail, enjoy working under pressure and to deadlines, as well as be passionate about creating a motivational and fun environment for your team.

Main responsibilities will include;

  • Manage a dynamic team (circa 14), key responsibilities including assisting in the recruitment process, reviews and helping them grow in their careers with a key focus on developing staff and facilitating a positive working environment
  • Motivate and drive engagement within the team, creating a clear vision for the team of its purpose within the business
  • Own the settlement and payment process for transactions taking place within the EMEA region
  • Facilitate internal communication, fostering an environment of initiative and ownership, ensuring the team provide appropriate support to their key business stakeholders
  • Be responsible for designing and developing metrics so that UK management can analyse trends in the business, providing incite and suggestions based on these
  • Implement and develop a clear process to facilitate effective communication between the Operations team and the various banks investigations teams to ensure that we are dealing with issues quickly.
  • Build clear process and procedure across the board, documenting and instilling as BAU practice
  • Partnering with the risk team to implement key controls and complete regular Risk Control Self Assessments
  • Work with the reconciliations manager to ensure breaks are resolved in a timely fashion
  • Ensure we are compliant with local regulations, working with the local compliance team
  • Create efficiencies, with a strong focus on speed of process and sufficient control
  • Work closely with our international Operations teams, communicating regularly and ensure alignment on strategy, initiatives and process
  • Regularly partner with our Technical Operations team
  • Continually develop your knowledge of the payments area and industry as a whole

To be considered for this position, candidates must have the following experience/skills;

  • Exceptional management skills. Ability to motivate and inspire the Transactions Operations team.
  • Previous experience of settlements/payments process and messaging, particularly swift and required support infrastructure.
  • Good knowledge of UK and Global clearing systems
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with EMEA payment infrastructure - (CHAPS, SEPA etc)
  • Strong understanding of international payment systems (ACH, SWIFT etc)
  • Understanding of different messaging formats, including NACHA, FIN and FileAct
  • Good understanding of UK retail banking and relevant regulations
  • Strong analytical skills, in particular the ability to draw logical conclusions from a range of diverse source materials and present them in a clear and engaging way.
  • Experience of developing and improving systems, processes and controls
  • Passionate about ensuring that work is completed to a high quality standard.
  • Collaborative and supportive with the team and colleagues across the organization, while still being able to work independently when needed.
